The PACS Administrator is responsible for implementing and administering information systems for imaging and other areas. Requirements

  • 3 years hospital-based healthcare or information systems support experience.
  • 3 years' experience in a diagnostic imaging environment.
  • A radiology technician, or clinical IT professional with extensive experience in radiology or imaging systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-directed and motivated.
  • Project management skills (Planning, Organizing, Directing).
  • Strong skills in systematic program development and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures timely and complete image acquisition, archiving, validation in the PACS and other imaging systems, and exceptions handling.
  • Provides secondary support for the RIS analyst in providing support for the radiology information system.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves software and hardware problems related to Imaging, PACS and radiology related equipment.
  • Investigates, identifies, and prepares proposals to solve specific operational problems.
  • Performs cost and benefit analysis to establish proposal's worth and/or anticipated return on investment.
  • Develops project plans to add or update radiology equipment, software and hardware upgrades.
  • Participates in strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives.
  • Validates the design for each application assigned, under the control of the change management application.
  • Coordinates the activities of vendors in all phases of Imaging and PACS equipment repair, upgrade, and installation.
  • Trains radiologists, technologists, and transcriptionists on integrated RIS/PACS workflow.
  • Coordinates development of application testing scripts and conversion plans.
  • Develops operating standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains up-to-date documentation, including system specifications and user manuals.
  • Prepares reports for organizational leaders on all aspects of medical imaging operations.
  • Acts as a liaison and/or team member for digital imaging initiatives and projects.
