The primary purpose the Packer/Inspector is to ensure that all finished cartons meet quality standards and customer specifications through careful inspection and efficient packing. This role supports production by identifying defects, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and preparing products for shipment in a timely manner. This position reports to and performs work under the general direction of the Finishing Manager and may receive guidance or direction from Folder Gluer Operators and Finishing Department Lead.

Requirements

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to communicate effectively, and discern warning or emergency alarms, including forklift horns.
  • Sufficient vision to review and read documents, reports, and other job-related information, and observe signage in the plant
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to perform repetitive motions in fingering and hand/wrist/arm movements.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 50 lbs.; regularly carry up to 50 lbs. Work is done between the floor and shoulder height.
  • Ability to stand continuously for up to 4 hours, and 7.5 cumulative hours during a shift.
  • Ability to walk for up to 3.25 cumulative hours during shift duration.
  • Sufficient body flexibility and balance which require repeated bending, stooping, and kneeling motions.
  • Ability to bend and twist at the head, neck and waist.
  • Ability to occasionally climbs stairs upon entering/leaving the facility
  • Sufficient attention to concentrate and complete tasks.
  • Basic understanding of how machines like folder gluers work in a production setting.
  • How to check labels or job numbers to make sure the right materials are used.
  • Understanding how to spot damaged or incorrect materials before starting a job.
  • Knowledge of basic safety rules in a factory and how to wear protective gear properly.
  • Knowing what to do when the machine jams or stops working properly.
  • Learn production equipment functionality rapidly through visual and tactile problem-solving.
  • Quickly understand mechanical mechanisms and machine behavior through observation and hands-on interaction.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operational procedures and instructions, and policies.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Verbally communicate to clearly convey information and feedback to team members and supervisors
  • Address concerns promptly to ensure smooth workflow and collaboration
  • Demonstrate a cooperative and positive attitude when working with colleagues

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • MUST be able to demonstrate practical mechanical reasoning with the ability to quickly learn machine mechanisms, component interaction, and equipment behavior through hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review the ERP system to determine the number of cases needed; set up the tape machine accordingly.
  • Cut liner boards for the bottom of the cases and dividers, if necessary; complete the Packer/Inspector Checklist.
  • Inspect the color/print and die cut of cartons while packing.
  • Be familiar with all box styles.
  • Carefully package the finished product into corrugated cases and verify the count.
  • Pull appropriate samples as stated in the ERP.
  • Ensure the Packer/Inspector Checklist is completed in ERP.
  • Return unused cases to inventory and clean the work area.
  • Check with the department manager or lead to determine the job schedule.
  • Maintain productivity at all times by proactively seeking direction from operators, leads, or managers during machine downtime or make-ready periods.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required between the assigned start time and end times of work; must be able to work overtime when required.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company policies, procedures, practices, values, and standards of conduct.
  • Follow safety procedures and practices to ensure a safe working environment for all employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned
