About The Position

The Packaging Supervisor oversees the packaging line and operators on their shift and has a technical understanding of manufacturing operations. As a supervisor, you will manage up to 20 employees per shift, operating high-speed, liquid-filling packaging equipment. The Packaging Supervisor is responsible for maintaining an environment that emphasizes strong teamwork, safety, quality awareness, continuous improvement, communication, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience, preferably in a union environment preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • TPM knowledge / Green Belt Six Sigma preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day packaging line operations.
  • Manage quality control.
  • Lead and develop the safety culture within the packaging area.
  • Effectively communicate cross-functionally, lead line team DCS meetings, and communicate one-on-one.
  • Lead quality initiatives (such as batch numbers, scheduling concerns, TPO, etc.) relevant to the packaging team, ensure all quality metrics are being met, and coach team members on areas for improvement.
  • Maximizes output by reducing downtime through monitoring and controlling changeover, maintenance, and breakdown time.
  • Minimize waste by monitoring and controlling people and equipment performance.
  • Manage sanitation activities to ensure the packaging area is auditor/inspection ready at all times.
  • Document everything: SIR’s, employee conflicts, and/or any variation to the normal daily operations.
  • Mentor with a focus on safety, quality, efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the creation and communication of standard operating procedures (SOPs) or guidelines and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs); knowledge of the SOP process and how daily decisions impact the budget.
  • Provide oversight to maintenance employees & personnel to assist with equipment problems, troubleshooting, and execution of PM work.
  • Coordinate and conduct training for packaging line team members.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with the union members and lead within rules of the bargaining agreement.
  • Advocate and lead the transition to a Total Productive Management (TPM) culture.
