About The Position

The Packaging R&D Specialist plays a key role in supporting the development, documentation, testing and execution of packaging solutions for confection and snack products. Working closely with Packaging Engineers, Sales, Operations, Design and external supplier partners, this role helps move packaging concepts from idea to execution by coordinating technical details, managing documentation, and supporting testing and trials. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically curious and eager to learn how packaging solutions are developed in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. This position is designed to provide hands-on exposure to packaging design, materials, testing and internal processes while supporting Packaging Engineers so they can focus on higher-level development, optimization and cost-saving initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Material Science, Packaging Science, Supply Chain or related technical field of study
  • 0–2 years of experience in packaging, product development, manufacturing or technical support roles
  • Comfortable working in technical systems, databases and Microsoft Excel-based tools, exposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems a plus but not required
  • Sound verbal and written and written communication skills being able to across different audiences and stakeholders
  • Enthusiasm to learn packaging standards, testing protocols and internal processes of the co-packing and manufacturing environment
  • Fosters a self-starter approach, collaboration, curiosity, problem-solving and solutioning new challenges
  • Sound organizational and documentation skills with high attention to detail and precision
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Assist with safety and ship testing, including coordinating tests, tracking results, and organizing documentation
  • Willingness to ask questions, learn from feedback and take ownership of assigned work
  • Attend all food safety training sessions (GMP, SQF, HACCP, Allergen, Food Facility Security, Preventing Foodborne Illness)
  • Participate in company GMP walks
  • Enforce company rules regarding food safety and monitoring

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of packaging solutions by assisting with quoting, documentation and coordination for new and existing projects
  • Assist with safety and ship testing, including coordinating tests, tracking results and organizing documentation
  • Build and maintain material specification sheets, die lines and packaging documentation used across internal teams and with customers
  • Work with supplier partners to coordinate die line development and sample requests
  • Track, organize and ship white samples (e.g. structural samples) and development materials
  • Enter and maintain packaging data, pricing and routing information in internal systems (e.g. Excel, ERP and/or TOPS)
  • Help prepare for and support feasibility trials, including follow-ups and data collection
  • Maintain organized records related to testing status, approvals, molds and tooling
  • Support purchase orders for samples, trials and testing activities
  • Organize and maintain first-production and development samples
  • Participate in team ideation and continuous improvement efforts for repeat packaging programs
