Job Purpose Operate packaging equipment and perform all related activities to ensure product quality and efficient packaging processes on the assigned line. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Packaging Operations Package products in bags, boxes, or bulk containers; label and stack on pallets. Stack bags weighing up to 50 lbs from waist/shoulder height to pallets between knee and shoulder height. Quality Assurance Visually inspect finished products for quality. Ensure bags, wraps, seals, boxes, and pallets meet quality standards. Communicate quality concerns immediately to Packaging Lead or Supervisor. Equipment Setup and Operation Set up, operate, and troubleshoot packaging equipment, including but not limited to: Bemis 1 & 2, Parsons, Jem lines, palletizers, forklifts, stretch wrappers, scales, metal detectors, belts, control panels, labelers, coders, case erectors, trash compactors. Sanitation and Changeover Participate in full facility clean-up between runs. Assist with product changeovers, cleaning, and sanitation; perform required inspections before start-up. Quality Control Tasks Enter data from routine checks into IQS software. Monitor HACCP compliance during processing. Collect finished product samples for release testing. Verify metal detectors and magnets per Quality Checkpoints. Participate in first-article inspections for food safety and quality. Documentation Complete required paperwork accurately, including production reports. Technical Responsibilities Perform operator-level preventive maintenance. Troubleshoot technical issues and notify Maintenance when needed. Suggest and assist with line improvements. Training Provide technical training and cross-training for new hires and plant personnel. Safety and Compliance Follow GMPs, JSAs, and SOPs. Maintain a clean and organized work area for the next shift. Report any situation that may affect food safety or quality. Obtain Lock Out/Tag Out and forklift certifications. Competencies and Skills Basic math (addition, subtraction, percentages). Basic computer proficiency. Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Positive approach to giving and receiving instructions. Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or GED required. Experience: Manufacturing experience preferred. Physical Demands Regularly: Talk, hear, walk, stand, use hands for handling. Occasionally: Sit, operate foot controls, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach above shoulders. Lift: 20–50 lbs occasionally; 10–25 lbs frequently; up to 10 lbs constantly. Vision: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Work Environment Frequent exposure to allergens and airborne particles. Temperature range: 0–100°F depending on season and workstation. Exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasional outdoor conditions. Noise level: Loud during production. PPE required: Boots, gloves, safety glasses, face shields, ear plugs, bump caps.
