About The Position

Temp Staff Management Group is seeking a Packaging Mechanic for our client in East Hanover, NJ. Schedule: 3rd Shift: 11PM - 7:15AM Pay Rate: $30 - $35 / hour Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Packaging Machinery Mechanic to support our 3rd shift operations, who can expertly set up, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain all packaging equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or technical degree.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in packaging machinery maintenance and operation.
  • Proficient in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Skilled in PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Experienced with various packaging equipment—fillers, labelers, cartoners, blister systems, inkjet/UV printers, vision systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, training, and teamwork capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, solve complex issues, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Deep understanding of cGMP, DEA, OSHA, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead setup and changeover for packaging lines—blister machines, bottle fillers, cartoners, inkjet and UV printers, vision systems—ensuring proper tooling, alignment, and format accuracy.
  • Set and verify all process parameters (speed, temperature, fill levels, print registration) in accordance with documented SOPs and regulatory standards
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation-related issues quickly to maintain uptime.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks—lubrication, inspections, parts replacement—to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Assurance to investigate packaging defects, regulatory deviations, or customer complaints, providing corrective actions and improving process controls.
  • Ensure strict adherence to cGMP, DEA, OSHA, and internal safety guidelines; lead safety reviews, lockout/tagout (LOTO), line clearance, and approval protocols.
  • Maintain detailed machine logs, maintenance records, and batch documentation in CMMS/SAP for compliance and auditing purposes.
  • Analyze production inefficiencies and waste, recommending and implementing process improvements and potential equipment upgrades or expansions.
  • Leverage solid working knowledge of PLCs and automation controls, and familiarity with continuous and thermal inkjet, UV printers, vision systems, and automotive-grade packaging machinery.
  • Actively recommend new technologies, retrofit opportunities, and automation strategies to support future-scale operations.
