About The Position

Our plant in Evansville, IN is looking for experienced Packaging Machine Technicians. The Packaging Machine Technician keeps high-speed packaging lines running safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Gruma’s food-safety and quality standards. The role combines mechanical troubleshooting, line change-over, and real-time quality verification to ensure every pallet of corn flour meets spec and ships on time.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related field plus one year of experience in the job offered or related packaging role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Requires one year of experience in the following:
  • Operating packaging machines and performing mechanical adjustments to maintain continuous production of 50-lb bags.
  • Using an SAP system to capture and reconcile inflows/outflows through both physical counts and automated warehouse controls.
  • Generating, interpreting, and acting on daily indicator reports.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on loading machinery.
  • Applying Quality Management System and Food-Safety procedures to ensure finished-product conformity.
  • Supporting maintenance teams with scale calibrations, mesh changes, and both corrective and preventive maintenance on production equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Start, operate, and shut down bag-fillers, sealers, palletizers, stretch-wrappers, and labelers.
  • Adjust PLC/HMI parameters (fill weight, speed, bag size) when switching among package formats.
  • Replenish consumables—shrink wrap, labels, tape—and verify correct material setup for each production order.
  • Perform metal-detector and magnet inspections; document results and hold product if out of tolerance.
  • Inspect Safety Sifter screens, coordinate mesh changes, and log preventive-maintenance intervals.
  • Check on-bag code dates for legibility and accuracy to maintain full traceability.
  • Identify, isolate, and correct jams, seal faults, or weight deviations in real time to minimize downtime.
  • Escalate persistent issues to the Maintenance team and assist with repairs or part swaps as needed.
  • Complete downtime forms, noting root causes and corrective actions; feed data into OEE dashboards.
  • Track weight variances, seal integrity, and other key metrics to hit daily throughput targets.
  • Follow GMP, PPE, color-code, and Lock-Out/Tag-Out protocols at all times.
  • Keep the work area organized and participate in master-sanitation activities.
