The Packaging Machine Operator, under general supervision, is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of snack packaging machinery. This role involves reading production schedules, planning accordingly, and efficiently maintaining machine operation by monitoring codes, dates, and prices. The operator ensures an adequate supply of roll stock and all necessary packaging materials are available for each machine. Key responsibilities include adjusting machine micro logic set-up to maintain efficient and low-waste operations, and demonstrating proficiency in machine setups, changeovers, proper running, procedural adjustments, sanitation cleanup, and shutdown. The operator must plan ahead for machine changeovers, efficiently transitioning between products, and monitor and adjust machines to ensure proper film cut-off and secure bag seals. They are also responsible for ensuring machines run at standard speeds, monitoring and checking product weights and appearance, and properly accounting for and reworking product run-off. Maintaining clean machines and work areas, reporting maintenance problems, and adhering to safety and hygiene guidelines are crucial. The position requires storing supplies in designated areas, keeping work area aisles clear, and following safe lifting procedures. This role also involves providing leadership and direction to the entire packaging line and may qualify the individual to perform as a Back-up Packaging Coordinator or other technical/skilled position. If applicable, the operator may monitor and replenish seasoning on overhead equipment to ensure proper product coverage. Mandatory overtime may be required, and other duties may be assigned.
