About The Position

The Packaging Laboratory Scientist I at McCormick is responsible for developing and executing laboratory science projects, managing internal and external laboratory testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment. This role supports new product development, cost-saving initiatives, and manufacturing improvements while collaborating cross-functionally to enhance project outcomes. The position involves working with various packaging formats and materials for McCormick's renowned brands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Package Engineering, Packaging Technology, or a technically relevant discipline.
  • 1-3 years of experience in technical areas of laboratory testing, laboratory projects and laboratory operations, preferably in the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) industry.
  • Strong math, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, high attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to be a team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Food industry and manufacturing environment experience.
  • Experience with advanced laboratory analysis equipment, automated metrology systems, robotics and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with ArtiosCAD software and an understanding of basic secondary packaging design principles.
  • Experience with SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint software.

Responsibilities

  • Development and/or execution of laboratory science projects.
  • Execution of laboratory testing of packages, packaging components, or packaging materials internally and through external partners, to validate or predict performance, durability, function & reliability.
  • Laboratory operations support to include implementation of safety practices, creation & maintenance of test procedures and SOPs, and equipment calibration & maintenance.
  • Manage multiple work assignments concurrently with accountability for deliverables and milestones.
  • Plan and prioritize work to ensure deadlines and expectations are met and be highly self-directed.
  • Interact across all levels of the organization, work cross-functionally, and participate in project activities.
  • Apply established standards, controls, and processes.
