About The Position

Slate is looking for a Packaging Engineer to design, develop, and optimize packaging solutions for automotive components and materials. The goal is to create cost-effective, sustainable, and efficient packaging systems that improve supply chain performance and reduce waste. Must be willing to relocate to Warsaw, IN. Relocation assistance will be provided.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 5+ years of packaging experience in automotive, aerospace, or similar industries.
  • Experience in optimizing returnable and expendable packaging with suppliers.
  • Proficient in CAD tools for packaging design and optimization.
  • Knowledge of packaging design, materials, and logistics optimization.
  • Familiarity with ISO, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of sustainable packaging practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design packaging solutions for automotive components and finished goods, ensuring they meet logistics, storage, safety, and durability standards.
  • Work with manufacturing, quality, and design teams to identify parts suitable for returnable packaging.
  • Manage packaging budgets and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Develop sustainable packaging solutions using CAD tools like SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to create durable, cost-effective expendable packaging.
  • Conduct business case studies comparing returnable vs. expendable packaging.
  • Define packaging requirements for new product launches and analyze logistics data to improve supply chain flow.
  • Optimize packaging internal space utilization and material handling efficiency.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects focused on lean packaging and ergonomics.
  • Collaborate with various factory teams to design, develop, and implement containers and carts for internal factory kitting and sequencing.
  • Research new materials and technologies to improve packaging durability, reduce weight, and lower costs.
  • Ensure all packaging solutions meet required specifications and standards before implementation.
  • Conduct packaging performance testing as needed.
