The Packaging Engineer will support and collaborate with manufacturing in executing project plans directly related to packaging. This includes new product introductions, new market launches, supplier changes, manufacturing line support and package development. The engineer will establish packaging systems that meet the needs of Commercial and Manufacturing with optimal process and cost effectiveness. The Packaging Engineer is expected to manage projects and provide expert leadership concerning packaging and packaging systems for the corporation. The Packaging Engineer will collaborate with the Global Artwork Center in reviewing and creating structures for printed packaging components.

  • Evaluate, recommend, develop and implement packaging materials/systems based on multiple factors and influence (i.e. operations, regulatory, marketing, quality, artwork center, etc.)
  • Perform and/or coordinate material and packaging system testing as required by regulatory filing requirements
  • Develop and execute test protocols and reports
  • Collaborate with manufacturing sites on packaging development
  • Lead or participate on project teams
  • Support packaging component and/or equipment selection and validation
  • Problem solve quality deviations that occur during manufacturing operations
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to provide technical assessments and support for key component changes
  • Partner with Global Procurement to execute on aligned strategy, from vendor identification to implementation
  • Support continuous improvements and packaging process robustness initiatives
  • Develop and sustain a harmonized approach to packaging design
  • BS in Packaging Engineering or equivalent years of experience
  • 3 - 5 years' experience in Pharmaceutical Packaging Engineering, ideally with deep expertise in at least one major product platform (biologics or pharmaceuticals)
  • Project management capabilities
  • Lean manufacturing skills
  • Experience in regulated, cGMP environments
  • Packaging development related to: glass, plastics, delivery systems, sterilized components
  • Enable critical business decisions
  • Successful experience operating in diverse cultures and unfamiliar operating situations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Being skilled at presenting to highest levels of leadership
  • Proficiency in English
  • Relevant advanced degree or training/certificate in manufacturing preferred
