The Weekend Packaging Assistant Manager will maintain a strong leadership presence on production lines during packaging runs, machine changeovers, and sanitation, ensuring adherence to all safety policies, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). This role involves collaborating with the Safety Coordinator and other production managers on equipment operation and safety, investigating and reporting incidents, and advising leadership on compliance concerns. The Assistant Manager will supervise packaging lines to meet production goals and quality standards, identify performance issues, and work with the production management team to create and implement packaging and personnel schedules. Key responsibilities also include implementing and maintaining training programs for new hires, optimizing process performance, updating SOPs, managing department records, assisting in material procurement, and serving as the point of contact for packaging reworks, recalls, and holds. The position requires reviewing and analyzing monthly packaging statistics and acting as a resource for packaging, sanitation, quality, and maintenance fields. Supervisory duties include motivating staff for continuous improvement, monitoring operator performance, assisting with schedules, timecards, reviews, hiring, and HR documentation, promoting cross-training, and providing mentoring and coaching to operators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, packaging, or science-related field
  • 5 years of experience managing personnel in production environment
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain attention to detail while managing time to meet production goal

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of manufacturing, brewing, and production experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Keep strong leadership presence on production lines during packaging runs, machine changeovers, and sanitation
  • Enforce all safety policies, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Collaborate with Safety Coordinator and other production managers on equipment operation, safety, and verification that all safety documentation and training are completed accurately and timely
  • Investigate and report all accidents/injuries, near misses, and safety concerns
  • Advise leadership on safety compliance concerns and required preventative actions
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment through production runs by delegating responsibility for cleanliness and ensuring plant security
  • Supervise packaging lines to ensure production goals are met in a timely fashion and according to all quality standards and parameters.
  • Identify performance problems on the packaging lines and notify management and maintenance as needed for repairs
  • Work with production management team to create and implement packaging and personnel schedules
  • Implement and maintain training programs for new hires
  • Collaborate with supporting departments to optimize process performance
  • Knowledgeable on all packaging equipment operations
  • Fill in for absent team members when needed
  • Keep SOP’s updated for all packaging lines and processes
  • Maintain organization of department records
  • Manage updated production orders and finish packaging within Business Central/Other software programs
  • Assist in the procurement of production materials
  • Serve as the point of contact for packaging reworks, recalls, and holds
  • Review, consolidate, and analyze monthly packaging stats through Vorne records
  • Be a resource for all areas of packaging, sanitation, quality, and maintenance fields
  • Fulfill responsibilities of Packaging Production Manager and Director of Packaging Operations are absent
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Motivate staff to pursue continuous improvement, efficiency, and cost savings initiatives
  • Work alongside operators to continuously monitor performance
  • Assist with packaging personnel schedules, timecards, reviews, hiring and HR documentation
  • Promote cross training of all staff to help improve overall team proficiency
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to operators at all levels
  • Identify personnel performance and keep management informed with progress
  • Assist with daily safety checks along with tracking training progress and completions.
  • Communicate production and personnel progress daily
  • Maintain presence in packing areas to maintain professional employee relations
