About The Position

The Packaging and Inventory Technician (PIT) is responsible for covering a variety of duties involving the final packaging and staging of product and storage of finished goods. A PIT I employee must be forklift certified and will transport materials, supplies and product between designated areas on plant grounds. The PIT I employee is responsible for setting up and operating packaging and labeling equipment, making minor repairs, and adjusting machine settings to specifications. The PIT I employee will respond to robot and AGV alarms resolving minor issues. The PIT I employee will prepare cartons for odd-sized boxes prior to them entering the carton sealer.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Six to twelve months related experience with forklifts and/or manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to read and comprehend production schedule
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA 1910.178 and ANSI B56.5 (Powered Industrial Trucks and Automated Guided Vehicles)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Capable of observing machine functions to understand how they work
  • Skilled with hand tools such as pliers, wrenches, allen wrenches, screw drivers, and other small hand tools
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical problems as well as identify mechanical wear or functional issues with equipment
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to talk or hear
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and climb or balance
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, checklists, operating instructions, and computer screens
  • Ability to speak effectively with all team members and supervisors
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Knowledge of ProTraQ
  • Comfortable with wirelessly connected handheld devices (scanners, tablets, key fobs)
  • Ability to navigate and use Windows and internet-based applications (AGV, robot controls, conveyor controls)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current driver's license
  • Forklift Certification

Responsibilities

  • Using a forklift truck provides raw material to different locations throughout the production area and is also efficient in pallet put-away.
  • Labels pallet and verifies the carton label.
  • Operates stretch wrap machines and delivers the final product to the warehouse location.
  • Takes out trash, distributes recyclables, and operates the baler and compactor.
  • Runs inventory report to determine material needs and resolves inventory inaccuracies.
  • Records data accurately into the computer.
  • Loads label printers and makes adjustments and minor repairs when necessary.
  • Operates the chain hoist to change rolls.
  • Loads boxes, bags, and tape onto the machine and makes adjustments and minor repairs when necessary.
  • Observes product quality.
  • Regularly cleans pinchers to ensure packaging quality.
  • Identifies conveying issues that cause damaged boxes.
  • Reads and navigates the tablet for instruction.
  • Inspects, recharges, and replaces batteries of electric industrial trucks and AGV’s.
  • Manually places or adjusts pallets when needed.
  • Monitors robot settings and responds to alarms.
  • Resolves all AGV alarms and identifies causes.
  • Communicates with team and shift supervisors.
  • Assists other PIT crew members wherever needed.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.
  • Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety, and HACCP Pre-requisite Programs related to activities performed for this position.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve all setup-related issues for label printing and placement.
  • Consistently assists others in the area who are falling behind.
  • Thorough understanding of the inventory system and how to get the information they need to resolve inventory inaccuracies.
  • Minor maintenance and upkeep of the area and equipment.
  • Operates all of the required equipment in an efficient and effective manner. (Uncuffer, Top Sealer, label applicators, Robopac wrappers, conveyors, robotic palletizer, AGVs).
  • Rarely needs outside assistance besides true mechanical or electrical failures.
