About The Position

Under the direction of the team leader, the packaging operator is responsible to operate, maintain, monitor and adjust the packaging equipment from freezer exit through cased goods in a manner consistent with production needs and quality standards. The Packaging Operator works in three areas: Main Lines, Packaging Co Products, and Packaging Palletizer.

Requirements

  • Must have good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods.
  • Must have manual dexterity and ability to safely use cleaning equipment.
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in adverse conditions (extreme cold and heat, extreme wet, within closed surroundings).
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safe work practices at all times and participates in safety programs.
  • Monitors, operates, maintains, changeover, and adjusts packaging equipment including line-flow rates, packaging material, scales, baggers, case-packers, case erectors, case settler/sealer, glue machine, case coder, and grader room.
  • Ensures proper container sizing.
  • Records packaging machinery efficiencies, downtime and fills out reports accurately.
  • Responsible for ensuring complete package quality of product by checking weights, seals, codes, glue patterns, etc.
  • Completes CIL’s, Centerlines, and Defect Handling Standard Work.
  • Troubleshoots equipment operation and identifies mechanical and electrical equipment problems.
  • Operates equipment with minimum waste.
  • Handles bulk activities, hand stacks, and reworks product efficiently.
  • Provides direction to packaging laborers, general laborers, and temporary employees.
  • Qualified for Fire Watch duties.
