About The Position

This position is responsible for the design of new packaging components and packaging systems for new and existing Woodstream products, across all brands within Woodstream. Creativity and broad understanding of specific manufacturing processes, packaging materials, and results oriented project management are the skills required for this position. A thorough understanding of and commitment to team-based activities is also key to success in this position.

Requirements

  • BS Package Engineering (or equivalent related Engineering Degree)
  • 5– 10 Years of Experience in Package Engineering
  • Fluent CAD background in 2D and 3D design/drawing
  • Fluent in MS Office products
  • High Level of understanding of broad range of packaging materials, and basic understanding of various packaging components
  • Fluent understanding of packaging material manufacturing, and production line manufacturing to compliment design and materials selections criteria
  • Basic understanding of cost estimating corrugate, paperboard.
  • Fluent understanding reading quotes and determining accuracy per specifications.
  • Ability to create a full-costed bill of materials per supplier quotes and minimum order quantities

Nice To Haves

  • MS Package Engineering (or related Engineering), & 2-5 Years of Experience in Package Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Frequent package designs for New Product packaging (ie. corrugate, paperboard, and molded pulp, and knowledge of poly bag, film, bottle, closure design)
  • Fluent understanding in test protocols and industry test standards, ability to understand customer test requirements and relate them to design and confidence in test performance, ability to perform testing in packaging laboratory, will obtain ISTA CPLP within 90 days of employment
  • Responsible for assuring the design incorporates manufacturing limitations and capabilities, specifies important functional, aesthetic, and performance attributes, and defines tolerances for critical components and raw materials.
  • Designs, component drawings, cost effectiveness, quality, aesthetics, testing & reporting, comprehensive communications, timeline met, new product development & sustaining engineering activities.
  • Responsible for building and/or procuring prototype components for testing, market studies and sales/show samples according to defined marketing requirements that satisfy or exceed the functional and aesthetic requirements of the project.
  • Included in the prototype design are raw materials specifications, manufacturing instructions, packaging component specifications, packaging instructions, and drawings to fabricate the product.
  • Benchmarking competitive designs, identifying potential new ideas and materials, attending trade shows, visiting suppliers
  • Occasional-to-Minimal travel to local suppliers to broaden design and manufacturing of packaging, & packaging trade show.
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
