About The Position

The Pacific Northwest Portfolio Intern will support UNCF’s regional communications and media engagement efforts, contributing to storytelling, digital outreach, and event promotion. This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, content creation, and community engagement. The intern will play a key role in elevating student voices, highlighting donor impact, and increasing visibility for UNCF’s programs and events in the Pacific Northwest. At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will complete a final project that showcases their contributions and learning. This may include a communications portfolio featuring social media content, newsletter contributions, event materials, and a student/alumni spotlight series.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university program.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content scheduling tools
  • Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)
  • Interest in nonprofit communications, media, or public relations
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive
  • Availability to work onsite during our core hours Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
  • Availability for occasional evenings and weekends event(s).

Responsibilities

  • Support the management of UNCF Pacific Northwest’s social media platforms by assisting with content scheduling, community engagement, and tracking basic analytics
  • Assist in drafting content for the monthly newsletter, including student and alumni spotlights and program updates
  • Help design digital and print graphics for events such as the Portland Gala, Each One Teach One, and Portfolio Project
  • Conduct background research to support storytelling efforts, highlight UNCF milestones, and inform media campaigns
  • Assist in drafting press releases, event blurbs, and donor-facing communications under staff guidance
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to communications planning and special projects
  • Provide general support for promotional and logistical efforts related to summer events and community outreach, and donor follow-up
