This is a 40-hour hybrid position, onsite 2 days and remote 2 days per week. Join a supportive Advanced Practice Team in a role supporting the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. We specialize in radiation oncology and are committed to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for those receiving cancer treatment. We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider to join our radiation oncology CNS team and contribute to this mission. In the Department of Radiation Oncology, the advanced practice provider (APP) can expect to have the unique opportunity to work collaboratively with the radiation oncology physicians, while also practicing independently within the Cancer Center. While the APP can expect a relatively predictable work schedule planned whenever possible, scheduling variations may occur to cover clinical needs as they become apparent to the department/division/clinic.

Requirements

  • Two Years Advanced Practice experience preferred
  • Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
  • Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • 2 years of experience as a PA required
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Primary role supporting service for CNS radiation oncology patients
  • Assist in navigating patients and their families through the course of radiation therapy including symptom management and follow-up care.
  • Independently manage the supportive care and urgent patient needs that occur during treatment and in the immediate weeks after treatment and report to the supervising physician.
  • Review and manage patient communications using EPIC In-Basket
  • Support radiation oncology department via participation in APP coverage model and general clinic support as needed
  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
