About The Position

The Neurosciences Service Line at Spectrum Health is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our growing Spine Surgery APP team. As West Michigan’s leading spine referral center, the spine surgery department functions within our multidisciplinary team to provide quality spine care. The Spine Center located at Blodgett professional building houses outpatient PMR, interventional pain management, and our complex spine surgery teams. This position, in partnership with our outpatient APP providers, APP trauma consult service, orthopedic residents, and neurosurgery residents, will take call and work in OR, inpatient and outpatient settings. New APP's can expect a 4-6 month training process. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently after appropriate training & demonstrate excellent clinical acumen. This position plays an integral role in the spine team and works collaboratively & cohesively with our spine surgeons. We are excited to expand this team to 9 dedicated spine surgery APP's to provide optimal coverage to our growing surgical practice. Responsibilities/Expectations 4-day work week; (40-50 hours per week) Teams of 3 APPs: 2 surgeons Currently 7 days of call/ 4 weeks; plan for 4- 8 days of call /6 weeks once fully staffed Weekend coverage – at most 1 in 3 weekends, currently 1 in 4 weekends (subject to change as team expands) Holiday coverage – current expectation is 1 system holidays per year. Management of primary spine surgery ICU & floor patients Completing spine surgery consults OR case coverage providing first assist Spine trauma pager coverage Collaboration with other providers & members of our health care team to deliver quality & safe patient care

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner: Required Master's Degree Nurse Practitioners who obtained their education and certification after 2000 must show evidence of completion of a master’s, post-master’s or doctorate from a Nurse Practitioner program that is accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission 3 years of relevant experience current, relevant clinical experience Previous experience functioning in a collaborative role as a Nurse Practitioner LIC-Nurse Practitioner (NP) - State of Michigan CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Physician Assistant: Required Master's Degree Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program LIC-Physician Assistant - State of Michigan CRT-Physician Asst Certified (PA-C) - NCCPA National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS)
