About The Position

Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is seeking a patient focused Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our driven Neurosurgery team. We provide specialized and evidence-based approaches to diagnosing and treating pediatric conditions involving the brain and nervous system. Our team is dedicated to evaluating and treating infants, children, and teens. Essential Functions: Work both independently and as a team member to support the inpatient and outpatient team in the care of patients from the pre-natal period to young adulthood Evaluate and manage pediatric neurosurgery inpatients, including history/physical examinations, coordination of care, order entry, documentation Interdisciplinary discussion and collaboration to provide support for patients on the acute care neurosurgery service, as well as consults requested on neurosurgical patients who are hospitalized on other services (NICU, PICU, ED, Newborn, etc.) Evaluate, screen and counsel patients on health maintenance and promote utilization of community resources Perform bedside procedures Perform job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients Participate in weekly didactic meetings and conferences with dedication to lifelong learning Participate in ongoing quality improvement Flexibility in work schedule Work Schedule Hours: Variable Shift/ Days/ Hours: Specific hours to be determined upon hire 12- and 24-hour inpatient shifts Clinic shifts

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner: Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP or PNP-AC) specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Graduate of an accredited Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP or PNP-AC) program.
  • Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP or PNP-AC) recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • Minimum of two years of inpatient pediatric clinical nursing experience; at least 1 year experience with pediatric neurosurgery patients.
  • Physician Assistant Required Master's Degree
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program
  • LIC-Physician Assistant - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Physician Asst Certified (PA-C) - NCCPA National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Upon Hire required
  • Both NP & PA: CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required
  • CRT-Pediatric Adv Life Support (PALS) - AHA American Heart Association 120 Days required

Nice To Haves

  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) with one or more years of Acute Care PNP experience
  • Three or more years clinical nursing experience with the inpatient/acutely ill pediatric neurosurgery population
  • RNFA certification for OR participation
  • Demonstrated excellent patient service, written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated continuous professional development activities/research.
