About The Position

The Betz Congenital Heart Center seeks an Advanced Practice Practitioner (NP or PA) to contribute to the extensively growing Pediatric Congenital heart inpatient practice at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. A successful candidate will work within the Pediatric Cardiology space caring for ages newborn to 25 within the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital locations. Join a collaborative team of 12 APP’s caring for the children in West Michigan. This is an inpatient position within the Pediatric cardiac ICU Specific duties may include : Managing critically ill patients in conjunction with a cardiologist, intensivist, and cardiac surgeon Participating in daily rounding, collaborating with the team to adjust plans of care Triage outside calls and consultations Work with a variety of learners (medical students, residents, and fellows) in addition to attendings and APPs Consult appropriate services Providing prescriptions and appropriate testing for patient care Managing the clinical in-basket as needed Providing timely communication to patients and staff for management of patient health care needs Facilitate admissions, and referrals to community health facilities, agencies and resources Discharge patients at the direction of the attending physician, dictate discharge summary and coordinate outpatient care. The ideal candidate will: Demonstrate knowledge of risk factors and presentations of common medical conditions, and be able to continuously add to that knowledge with experience Perform a clinical history and physical assessment that is accurate, concise, relevant and complete, and be able to communicate this both verbally and in the electronic medical record. Have experience or education in a critical care setting Order and interpret relevant diagnostic studies, and synthesize the data to develop and implement plans of care Counsel and educate patients, families and communities of care as needed Participate in QI/ performance activities, and implement standards of care (policies and protocols) Shifts: This position will have rotating 6p-6a and 6a-6p shifts. Candidates interested in higher percentage of nights will be highly considered.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner: Required Master's Degree Nurse Practitioners 3 years of relevant experience current, relevant clinical experience Required Previous experience functioning in a collaborative role Required Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Michigan Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA American Heart Association
  • Physician Assistant: Required Master's Degree Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program State of Michigan License Physician Asst Certified (PA-C) - NCCPA National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA American Heart Association
