The Opportunity: The West Liberty University Physician Assistant Program is seeking a motivated and innovative individual for a 12 month, full-time, tenure track position of Principal Faculty member. We are searching for a team-oriented faculty member to participate in a dynamic and collaborative program which has strong administrative support, the potential for innovative inter-professional opportunities, and excellent benefits and opportunities for professional development. The principal faculty is a key academic leader responsible for contributing to the overall success of the program through teaching, professional activity, and service. This role involves providing instruction, participating in curriculum development and contributing to the program’s growth and excellence. In performing these functions, the principal faculty member works closely and collaboratively with the academic coordinator, faculty, staff, adjunct faculty, and invited guest lecturers to ensure the curriculum meets current practice standards and scope and is in compliance with ARC-PA requirements. Clinical practice opportunity is offered.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program.
  • Master’s degree minimum.
  • Current NCCPA certification required.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of West Virginia.
  • A commitment to excellent teaching, college service, and professional activity.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience in physician assistant education preferred.
  • Two or more years of clinical experience is preferred as a practicing PA.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Instruction: Deliver high-quality instruction to PA students in the didactic and clinical curriculum in the primary coordinator, secondary coordinator, or instructor roles as assigned. Develop and implement innovative teaching methods that align with program goals and accreditation standards. Participate in the evaluation of student performance throughout the academic and clinical program. Provide remedial instruction as necessary.
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with program leadership and colleagues to design, review, and enhance the PA program curriculum. Integrate advancements in medical knowledge, technology, and educational best practices into the curriculum. Contribute to the development of new courses or updates to existing courses
  • Professional Activities: Engage in professional activities such as clinical practice, research, publications, presentations or other contributions to the field. Encourage and support students in research projects and scholarly pursuits Stay current with the developments in the healthcare field and contribute to the academic community.
  • Student Advising and Mentorship: Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to PA students. Provide guidance on academic progress, career planning, and professional development. Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students. Support the activities of the WLU Physician Assistant Student Society (WLUPASS)
  • Participation in Program Administration: Contribute to program administration by participating in all program committees, assigned subcommittees, or other administrative roles as assigned. Collaborate with program leadership to evaluate and implement policies and procedures. Participate in the admissions process that includes the recruitment, application screening and selection of students. Assist with program self-evaluation that includes policy, curriculum review, and accreditation. Assist in the accreditation process, including preparing reports and documentation. Perform other functions in support of the program as requested by the program director.
  • Professional Development Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness and stay current in the field. Attend conferences, workshops, and training sessions relevant to PA education and clinical practice.
  • University, and Community Involvement: Attend and participate in assigned college, university committees and school activities. Represent the program at professional meetings, conferences, and events at the regional, state, and national level. Foster positive relationships with clinical partners, healthcare organizations, and healthcare community stakeholders.
