Summary Provide assistance with inpatient care of the surgical patients seeing new consultations and assisting with disposition. Takes histories, orders appropriate diagnostic tests, provides treatment to minor/routine problems, and give appropriate counseling to patients. Potential to transition to more operating room assistance. Position Reports To: Practice Manager

Requirements

  • Active Physician Assistant licensure with prescriptive authority in the state of Washington, required by start date.

Responsibilities

  • Takes histories, orders appropriate diagnostic tests, provides treatment to minor/routine problems, and give appropriate counseling to patients. Refers to physician as needed.
  • Writes prescriptions and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment.
  • Counsels patients and families and helps them understand issues related to physical and emotional health.
  • Assist with inpatient care of surgical patients seeing new consultations and assisting with disposition.
  • Potential to transition to an operation room assist, dependent on practice staffing.
  • Participates in health promotional activities.
  • Participates in decisions, planning, and policies related to clinical care.
  • Conduct outpatient clinics for postoperative and trauma patient follow-up with some potential for new consults and procedures.
  • Maintains thorough and complete medical records in a timely manner and demonstrates proficiency in using the Electronic Medical Record documentation system.
  • Records statistics and conducts research as deemed necessary.
  • Collaborates with staff and physicians to identify patient's needs and help develop plan to meet those needs.
  • Potential for shared weekends to be covered by the APP staff.
  • Weekly schedule to be rotated between inpatient service, outpatient clinic and potentially OR assist.
  • Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
