About The Position

The Critical Care Hospitalist (PA or ARNP) will provide advanced care for patients in the Surgical and Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (SNICU), focusing on the detection, treatment, and management of complex illnesses requiring hospitalization. Requirements

  • Physician Assistant (PA): Must meet Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners requirements, including graduation from an accredited PA program and/or NCCPA certification.
  • Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP): Must hold either a Doctoral or Master’s degree in Nursing. Degrees in related fields are not accepted. Must be eligible or have current Iowa nursing license, certification in specialty area, and ARNP licensure in Iowa.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments through history-taking and physical exams
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and lab results to support clinical decision-making
  • Prescribe medications and medical devices as part of treatment plans
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other care team members to coordinate patient care in the SNICU
  • Document all patient encounters, assessments, diagnoses, and care plans in the medical record
  • Educate and support residents and medical students during their SNICU rotations
  • Provide clear communication and counseling to patients and their families
