About The Position

Under the supervision of the PLAY Director/Coordinator, PLAY Coaches are responsible for the development, instruction, and motivation of all students participating in PLAY classes. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience. Support children in the program and implements program curriculum focused on holistic child development. Provides a quality experience to children that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

Requirements

  • AGE: 18 years or older
  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent
  • CERTIFICATIONS: Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications for Adult, Infant, and Child from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or ASHI within 60 days of hire.
  • Completion of compliance trainings prior to first day in program.
  • Cleared TB Test.
  • Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
  • You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Nice To Haves

  • Kinesiology or Pedagogy background preferred.
  • Previous experience working with grades K-5.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate to youth, including diverse groups of Must possess knowledge and skill necessary to inform, educate and motivate students in all areas of health and physical fitness.
  • Ability to counsel students on all aspects of physical fitness and barriers they must overcome to achieve their goals.
  • SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Strong character values (respect, responsibility, honesty, caring); strong communication skills; emotional maturity.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the developmental and amend weekly lesson plans to ensure organization and quality of the programs.
  • Implement daily lesson plans for coaches and students in the program.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth.
  • Maintains close visual supervision of children present in program. Organizes environment based on ages and developmental needs of children present.
  • No child is left unsupervised or staff alone with a child at any time.
  • Help children manage behavior using a positive approach, including proactive strategies, redirection and using constructive discipline with natural and logical consequences.
  • Make notation regarding each individual's participation, behavior and progress.
  • Actively supports the YMCA is committed to inclusion and compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) where appropriate.
  • Assist with planning and implementing program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, consistent with the YMCA values, and established guidelines.
  • Proactively build relationships between the teachers, the staff, and the students. Learn student’s strengths and weaknesses so you can motivate and tailor lesson plans to meet their needs.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards, maintains program and equipment, and maintains required program records in accordance with YMCA expectations.
  • Report problems, breakdowns in equipment, infringement on policies and unusual situations to appropriate supervisor/director.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical. Restroom usage, and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. Follows reporting procedures and proactively responds to situations to ensure a safe environment for all involved.
  • Understands and complies with current federal, state, local regulations, and YMCA policies and procedures at all time.
  • Attend meetings and trainings, as needed.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
  • Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.

  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
