About The Position

The Commercial/Agriculture Senior Underwriter at American National is responsible for underwriting new and renewal commercial and agricultural business within an assigned territory. This role involves maintaining relationships with agent partners, providing underwriting support, and leading projects as a subject matter expert. The Senior Underwriter will evaluate risks, communicate effectively with partners, and contribute to departmental goals while mentoring team members.

Requirements

• Six to ten years of insurance industry experience.
• Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter or other professional insurance designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate new business, policy changes, and renewal accounts within specified guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with agency and internal partners while providing underwriting support.
• Understand form language and provide coverage and class code opinions.
• Manage and update underwriting guidelines.
• Coordinate with manager and internal partners to identify regional needs and issues.
• Engage field partners to facilitate strong prospecting and market production.
• Understand and make decisions on multiple products associated with commercial and agriculture accounts.
• Monitor workflow and communicate observations of trends or performance issues.
• Provide an owner's mindset to the assigned territory.
• Present content to team or territory groups as needed.
• Participate in agency visits, whether virtual or in person.
• Complete independent projects with research coordinated with other business partners.
• Provide subject matter expertise in commercial or agricultural risks.
• Participate in larger group projects with interdepartmental partners.
• Mentor and support others within the Underwriting team.
