About The Position

Lund seeks an Overnight Residential Counselor to provide essential parenting and life skills support in our therapeutic living community. As part of a team of Residential Counselors, this role guides residents in their daily routines, helping them develop life skills, socialization techniques, and personal responsibility while maintaining a structured and supportive environment. Residential Counselors, are positive role models, offering mentorship and encouragement while implementing individualized treatment plans. They monitor resident progress, provide crisis intervention, and help create a safe, nurturing space where residents can thrive. This role will include setting clear and consistent boundaries, supervising daily schedules, assisting with household responsibilities, and supporting personal hygiene and self-care routines. Additionally, they collaborate with the treatment team to report on progress and challenges, ensuring each resident receives the care they need.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in human services related field and one year experience in mental health
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities, deadlines and demands; ability to work well under pressure; availability to respond to occasional off hours crisis; some state-wide travel to attend meetings; irregular hours at times to meet the needs of a 24-hour facility
  • Ability to assist with childcare including lifting infants and toddlers; ability to assist in social skill training including cooking and cleaning
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Ability to maintain a valid VT Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation is required; occasional statewide travel may be required.
  • The successful completion of a background and driving checks is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and supervise meal preparation
  • Explain daily routine, schedules, and activities to new residents
  • Transport residents when necessary
  • Provide on-site respite care to infants and young children in the program as necessary
  • Complete nightly room checks and maintain adherence to safe sleep policy
  • Administer medications, breathalyzers and urinalysis once trained to do so
  • Complete daily and monthly documentation as required
  • Report to Shift Supervisor and Associate Director when incidents/discussions appear harmful, dangerous, or inappropriate and need further exploration and action
  • Assist with floor coverage and planning as needed to ensure adequate staffing levels
