About The Position

The Overnight Child Care Counselor position is a full-time role dedicated to supervising and protecting children and young adults in a residential setting. The counselor will assist with classroom instruction, help children develop socially acceptable habits, and participate in the development of individual child care plans. The role requires maturity, emotional security, and the ability to engage with children in various activities, fostering their independence and personal growth. The counselor will also be involved in recreational and therapeutic activities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all residents.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • AA (60 units) or bachelor's degree preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Interest in working with children
  • Comfortable and responsive to children
  • Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in child care or related fields
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and protect children individually and in groups at all times
  • Help children acquire socially acceptable habits of behavior and develop improved personal relationships
  • Assist with all classroom instruction under the guidance of the teacher
  • Help each child relate to the group and handle individual problems
  • Be involved in the social skills training of each resident
  • Use appropriate authority and discipline to set limits for behavior
  • Participate as a unit team member in the development of individual child care plans
  • Display maturity, emotional security, and temperament to care for children and adolescents
  • Exhibit good judgment and ability to get along with other staff members
  • Provide individual understanding and empathy to residents
  • Organize and participate in group discussions and leisure activities
  • Structure and assist in daily living skills fostering independent functioning
  • Engage in recreational and therapeutic sports activities with clients
  • Ensure cleanliness of client bedrooms and common areas
  • Other duties as required
