About The Position

The Overdraft Specialist is responsible for managing and resolving overdraft accounts through compassionate service delivery, financial expertise, and a strong commitment to helping our members improve their financial wellbeing. The Overdraft Specialist assists members with overdraft protection services, analyzes account activity, negotiates repayment plans, and provides financial guidance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ years of Financial Services experience preferred.
  • 1+ years of collections and/or account servicing experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills required.
  • Knowledge of financial products and services required.
  • Understanding of credit union policies and regulatory requirements required.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to member inquiries, concerns, and complaints related to overdraft protection.
  • Analyze member accounts to identify trends and patterns that may lead to overdrafts.
  • Educate members to help them understand their financial situation based on account analysis.
  • Educate members on recommended usage of overdraft coverage and provide insights and recommendations to mitigate overdraft issues.
  • Negotiate and establish mutually agreeable repayment plans with members, considering their financial circumstances and the credit union's policies.
  • Proactively initiate contact with members who are 10-30 days past due on their overdraft coverage accounts through various communications channels including phone calls, emails, and written communication.
  • Discuss the overdraft account, associated fees, explain options, and offer guidance to members.
  • Ensure that interactions and collection activities comply with credit union policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all communications, negotiations, and agreements with members.
  • Prepare and provide regular reports to management regarding the status of overdraft collections, recovery efforts, and trends.
  • Stay informed about changes in regulations, credit union policies, and industry best practices related to overdraft management and collections.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
