About The Position

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate to fill one position (either Albany or NYC) of Overdose Response Trainer in the Office of Addiction Services and Supports, Division of Harm Reduction to assist in the opioid overdose prevention portion of the State Opioid Response 2024 (SOR IV) initiative. The initiative is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and is designed to address the opioid crisis in New York State. The OASAS implementation approach is to fund providers that are part of a regional network that will use an array of evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery services to combat the opioid crisis.

Requirements

  • Four years of professional training experience; OR An Associate's degree with a minimum of three years of professional training experience; OR A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of professional training experience; OR A Master's degree with one year of professional training experience; OR A Ph.D. or J.D.
  • Candidates must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • One plus years' training experience in a behavioral health or medical setting preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in public health, public administration, sociology, psychology, or related field.
  • One plus years' experience working in culturally diverse communities and bilingual (English and Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day activities associated with the SOR grant.
  • Using SAMHSA's Opioid Overdose Prevention TOOLKIT and other materials, conduct opioid overdose prevention trainings throughout New York State.
  • Work under the supervision of the Training Coordinator and regional stakeholders, including Opioid Overdose Prevention Programs (OOPPs), to address regional network collaboration and resource sharing to increase access to naloxone and opioid overdose prevention training.
  • Ensure that all materials and naloxone kits are prepared and available for all trainings.
  • Maintain changes to the training as advised by overdose training coordinator
  • Pack and ship overdose prevention and response supplies to community members.
  • Ensure that rooms are set up appropriately, including materials and resources, sign-in sheets, and appropriate mechanism to verify attendance for credentialing training hours.
  • Extensive and frequent one-day and overnight travel throughout New York State is required.
