The Overburden Superintendent oversees all aspects of earthwork and grading operations on quarry sites. This role ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards. The Superintendent coordinates crews, equipment, materials, and subcontractors while maintaining strong communication with project leadership.

  • Study project plans and specifications, and oversee multiple overburden removal projects.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Supervisors, and Plant Managers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Apply creative thinking and problem-solving strategies to overcome field challenges.
  • Monitor and optimize production rates to maximize efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Foster strong working relationships with Plant Managers, Engineers, and Inspectors to support collaboration and timely project approvals.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, grading plans, and specifications to guide field operations.
  • Direct and coordinate work crews and subcontractors, ensuring safe and productive operations.
  • Monitor and enforce site safety, ensuring compliance with company, MSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • 5+ years of experience in grading or earthwork construction, including 2+ years in a supervisory role under MSHA regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of highway and utility construction means and methods, local, state (TDOT), and federal municipal public works specifications is a plus.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction documents and perform layout from plans.
