About The Position

At Harcros Chemicals Inc., an employee-owned company with a rich legacy in specialty chemical manufacturing and distribution, we're continuously expanding. With 2 manufacturing plants and 27 distribution facilities across 20 states, we're seeking a dedicated Over the Road Driver professional to join our team to assist with opportunities. Reporting to the Director of Transportation this role will be transport materials to and from designated locations while ensuring the safe and efficient handling of goods. As the face of our company, the Over the Road Driver will also drive, manage hazardous materials, and perform maintenance tasks to keep operations running smoothly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • 2+ years of experience or training.
  • And/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Commercial driver's license (all classes) required.
  • Hazardous Materials and Tank Endorsement or ability to obtain certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Effective communication skills with customers and colleagues.
  • Problem-solving skills in standardized situations.
  • Physical requirements include lifting and moving various weights up to 100 pounds.
  • Physical requirements will also include standing or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Visual abilities including close vision, color vision, and depth perception.
  • Work environment includes exposure to outdoor weather conditions and mechanical equipment.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals and noise.
  • Occasionally work at elevated, precarious heights and could be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, as well as toxic or caustic chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Transport Materials: Drive a truck to transport products from vendors to company warehouses or directly to customers.
  • Manage Hazardous Materials: Handle and inspect hazardous materials, manage records, and respond to spills or incidents following emergency action plans.
  • Read and Follow Customer Orders: Interpret customer orders, shipping papers, or purchase orders to schedule and execute deliveries or pickups.
  • Deliver and Collect: Pick up products, verify accuracy, and deliver to the appropriate location. Collect payments for deliveries and services.
  • Maintain Records: Keep detailed truck logs in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Load and Unload: Efficiently load and unload goods, securing cargo for safe transit and returning empty containers as needed.
  • Perform Maintenance: Inspect and maintain truck equipment and supplies. Conduct emergency roadside repairs, replacing light bulbs and installing tire chains.
  • Secure Cargo: Use load bars, straps, dunnage to secure items during transportation.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Generate, handle, and/or inspect hazardous waste and hazardous waste storage.
  • Respond or manage hazardous waste spills and incidents based on the site's emergency action or contingency plan.
  • Prepare and manage hazardous waste records such as manifests, inspection logs, waste determination and other reports.
