About The Position

Provide efficient and safe transportation of students to and from school activities. To perform all related duties as assigned. 1. Able to demonstrate the safe and efficient operation of an OTR bus. 2. Must meet and maintain all performance responsibilities, legal requirements and physical requirements for bus drivers. 3. Must be familiar with state geography, towns/cities, roads and school locations. 4. Must be able to access road and travel and weather information to and from destinations. 5. Must follow proper reporting and record keeping of financial information, use of vouchers and credit cards. 6. Must conduct emergency evacuation drills and all trip safety requirements. 7. Must maintain proper student/staff relations. 8. Must be able to conduct minor maintenance (fueling etc.)/repair of vehicles. 9. Must maintain a Wyoming Commercial drivers license with air brakes (where applicable) passenger and S endorsements. 10. Maintains insurability according to District's insurance carriers criteria. 11. Uses positive verbal and nonverbal communication and interaction skills when working with students, parents and all district personnel. 12. In cooperation with sponsors (coaches, teachers, chaperones) maintains student discipline on bus utilizing the Districts student discipline procedures. 13. Conducts pre trip/post trip and maintains a clean bus. 14. Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff, parents/guardians in any public setting. 15. Route duties as assigned. 16. Other duties as assigned. Other Functions: 1. Attends training as scheduled. 2. Washes, cleans inside and fuels bus as necessary. 3. Monitors two way radio and cell phones as necessary. 4. Utilizes proper OSHA techniques when handling body fluids (blood born pathogens), when handling chemicals (Hazard Communication/Right to Know). 5. Able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid (Standard) training and certification. Must possess the range of motion to successfully administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid. 6. Responsible for assisting in the training of new drivers at the direction of the Safety/Training Coordinator. -EMPLOYEES ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL DUTIES OF THIS JOB--

Requirements

  • Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
  • Must know and apply Wyoming rules and laws of the road.
  • Ability to recognize mechanical problems that would require stopping of bus to prevent further damage or potential accident to vehicle.
  • Ability to read and understand gauges.
  • Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions.
  • Ability to enunciate clearly and communicate positively throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work with people of various personality types.
  • Possess sound emotional judgment.
  • Appropriate CDL license with S (School Bus), P (Passenger) and Air brake endorsement where pertinent.
  • CPR, First Aid, Defensive Driving
  • Upper body strength to lift 50 lbs.
  • Lower body strength to climb in and out of buses.
  • Able to sit/drive for long periods of time without fatigue.
  • Sufficient physical strength to turn steering wheel of bus without difficulty.
  • Ability to assist students of various physical abilities.
  • Operate lift on special needs bus.
  • Ability to function in severe weather situations.
