About The Position

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for developing and managing customer relationships across a defined sales territory. This individual will proactively engage prospective and existing business clients through field visits, cold calling, lead generation, and solution-based selling. This role requires a self-motivated sales professional capable of working independently, documenting interactions in a CRM, and representing the company at client sites and occasional trade shows. Success in this position is measured by revenue growth, customer retention, and territory development.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets in a field sales environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business, marketing, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of B2B outside sales experience, preferably in industrial, distribution, or supply chain sectors.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or construction supply markets.
  • Familiarity with route-based sales strategies and territory management.
  • Experience attending and representing organizations at trade shows or conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute territory sales strategies to meet or exceed assigned revenue targets.
  • Conduct in-person client meetings to understand customer needs, present solutions, and close sales.
  • Perform outbound cold calls and in-person prospecting to generate new business opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records of all customer interactions, leads, and opportunities.
  • Provide quotes, follow up on open proposals, and manage the full sales cycle from prospect to close.
  • Identify new market segments and proactively pursue new customers within assigned territory.
  • Coordinate with inside sales, product teams, and customer service to deliver outstanding service.
  • Monitor competitor activity and report relevant market intelligence to management.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions as required.
  • Travel throughout the territory (up to 75%) with occasional overnight stays.
  • Assist corporate credit manager in collecting A/R balances for assigned account base.
