About The Position

The Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Technician will perform complete inspection and acceptance of both aerial and underground placement and associated construction activities for any assigned OSP project. This position will be covered by a collective bargaining agreement and is a union position. All candidates must be willing and able to sign on with the applicable union if hired. Sturgeon Electric’s Commercial and Industrial (C&I) electrical construction division specializes in large-scale commercial electrical projects, telecommunications, traffic signalization, gas distribution, high voltage distribution service and maintenance to clients. Sturgeon Electric has experience performing projects under Integrated Lean Project Delivery methods, and also offers pre-construction services, in-house pre-fabrication capabilities, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) capabilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Electrical construction experience preferred, both aerial and underground placement and associated construction activities

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred knowledge of both CWDM and DWDM networking including CWDM filter splicing
  • Preferred knowledge of both CWDM and DWDM networking including CWDM filter splicing

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reading prints and understanding the fiber optic color code to install and test fiber cable in a variety of environments (underground, aerial)
  • Operate fiber fusion splicing machines and a variety of different OTDR and power meters
  • Install both aerial and underground splice closures, along with a variety of other closures common to the splicing and termination of fiber optic cables
  • Will perform fiber testing utilizing OTDRs, Power Meter/Light Sources and VFLs
  • Accurately record and document testing results per customer specifications
  • Additional responsibilities as directed by the Foreman/Construction Manager
