About The Position

We are seeking a skilled OSP Fiber Splicing Technician to join our outside plant construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for the splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber‑optic cables in both aerial and underground environments. This position plays a critical part in delivering reliable, high‑quality fiber connectivity to customers.

Requirements

  • Experience with fiber splicing (fusion and/or mechanical).
  • Understanding of OSP fiber cable types, color coding, and construction standards.
  • Ability to read fiber schematics, splice diagrams, and construction prints.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with OTDRs, power meters, and test equipment.
  • Comfort working outdoors and in confined spaces when needed.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail when working with delicate fiber strands.
  • Excellent communication skills with crew members and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in OSP construction or telecommunications.
  • Knowledge of aerial plant, lashing, and underground fiber infrastructure.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Certifications (e.g., FOA, ETA) are a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing on single‑mode and multimode fiber.
  • Install, terminate, and dress fiber cables inside splice enclosures, cabinets, pedestals, and network equipment.
  • Use OTDR, light meters, and other test equipment to verify fiber integrity and performance.
  • Diagnose and correct issues such as breaks, signal loss, and improper splices.
  • Accurately document splice locations, cable routes, test readings, and as‑built information.
  • Ensure all work meets industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Work in outdoor environments, including aerial, underground, handholes, manholes, and OSP cabinets.
  • Operate and maintain tools, trailers, generators, and splicing equipment.
  • Follow all OSP, electrical, traffic control, and equipment safety procedures.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your crew.
