About The Position

The Outside Plant Engineer position is responsible for designing additions, upgrades, repairs, and enhancements to the Outside Plant telephony network which includes all structures (such as poles and conduit systems), cable (copper & fiber) and associated equipment for aerial, underground, buried, and customer premise equipment. The Engineer will coordinate with a variety of Telmunication departments and also have direct customer contact with builders, building managers, property owners, and residential and business end users. The Engineer needs the ability to work in a diverse environment both indoors and outdoors, business and residential, and must be able to solveplex problems with innovative solutions. The Engineer must be able to price out solutions and select the most effective, efficient, and timely design. The Engineer must have the ability to proficiently manage their individual work as well as project manage work assigned to others. The Engineer has the authority, up to a set dollar limit, to choose and implement solutions independently. The ability to work in a team is critical.

Requirements

  • Existing knowledge of Telmunication Canvas, vBuild, CCP, ICGS/IDDS, NTAS, CLLinet, and other key systems.
  • Understanding of the Telmunication OSP HiCap Engineering and Fiber to the Cell Site Engineering processes including cabling and equipment necessary to provide ASR/CNE Case work load designs including but not limited to providing facilities for service driven orders and FTTCS.
  • Ability to be available for field visits within the Capital Region of Upstate NY and surrounding areas pushing South to Columbia & Greene Counties, North to the Canadian border, and West to the Utica & Rome / Oneonta areas.
  • Ability to conduct field surveys, identifying Telmunication equipment, cable paths, power types, and space requirements. This includes the ability to interface with customers and property managers to negotiate necessary requirements to fulfill orders.
  • Must possess a “can do” attitude and ability to self-manage the engineering tasks associated with the jobs assigned to you and ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Must possess familiarity with local and NYS DOT permitting standards and lead times required to build facilities and provide service on or before customer due dates; this includes setting correct customer expectations based on longer permitting lead times.
  • Must possess proficientputer skills (windows-based programs and corporate database systems).
  • Must possess solid analytical,munication, and leadership skills- demonstrated written and orally as necessary.

  • Prior knowledge of IEN tasking (valuable, but not required to obtain the position).
