About The Position

The Outside Plant Construction Technician III is responsible for the installation of copper and fiber network communication facilities—both buried and aerial—in accordance with Nsight and industry standards. This role involves advanced operation of construction equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, end loaders, horizontal directional drills, and plows to accurately place network infrastructure. The technician also installs, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs aerial and underground copper/fiber systems. Additionally, this position plays a key role in promoting and ensuring team adherence to all safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or educational equivalent
  • 7+ years of construction equipment operation utilizing various underground and aerial construction equipment such as directional drills, trencher/plow/rocksaw, backhoe, or bucket trucks.
  • Experience in working with telecommunication products and services.
  • Class A CDL.
  • Valid driver’s license and remain eligible for DOT requirements.
  • Experience operating vehicles with manual transmissions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general construction labor in various weather conditions while utilizing and enforcing safety fundamentals.
  • Operate construction and other excavating equipment to construct and maintain outside plant copper/fiber facilities.
  • Perform the placement of new aerial and buried copper/fiber according to maps, staking sheets, and locate markings.
  • Review and update GIS, maps, addresses, as-builds.
  • Set peds, vaults, and handholes along with marking/labeling fiber optic and/or copper facilities.
  • Advanced operations of all test equipment associated with outside plant facilities and construction duties.
  • Install, troubleshoot, test, splice, repair, and maintain copper/fiber optic facilities.
  • Identify location of defective copper/fiber using various test equipment and repair buried and aerial facilities.
  • Locate copper/fiber in response to customer requests and/or construction needs.
  • Perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
  • Ensure worksite and landscape are fully restored after project completion.
  • Train and mentor personnel as directed by manager.
  • Service, clean, maintain, and repair equipment.
  • Perform administrative duties related to line maintenance of outside plant.
  • Actively train, monitor and coach team members while sharing construction knowledge and experience.
  • Perform quality control inspections and make training recommendations.
