As an Outside Machinist, you will: Perform a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving deck machinery, engine room work, general dock, rudders, shafting, propeller work, and testing Use knowledge of equipment operation for assembly, installation and testing Perform valve and pump repair and overhaul Repair ship components using blueprints, sketches and sample parts Work with rudders, shafts, propellers and deck machinery Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on facility machinery

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Read, write and comprehend simple instructions
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
  • Able to calculate and understand units of measure, including fractions and decimals
  • Know how to measure using a scale and tape measure
  • Read, understand, and interpret advanced blueprints to preform task required
  • Use of measuring devices (rulers, micrometers, dial indicators, depth mics, scales, etc.), hand tools, and power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Able to wear appropriate protective gear
  • Able to physically perform essential job duties with or without accommodations
  • Able to work at heights, in confined spaces and have the ability to climb staircases and ladders of varying sizes
  • Trained in all annual NAVSEA Standard Items

Responsibilities
