About The Position

Join GDIT as an Outside Machinist (US Navy Submarine) for a career where your growth is just as important as the mission you support. The SUB AIT program supports the In-Service Attack Submarines Program Office (PMS 392) under Program Executive Office Attack Submarines (PEO SSN) to achieve optimal submarine operational readiness by providing production support, component repairs, and technical support to accomplish repair, maintenance, removal/installation, troubleshooting, and associated testing for Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) submarine maintenance availabilities. The efforts associated with this program will help restore and maintain the material condition and modernization of the fast attack submarines of the United States Navy.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of related experience performing repair work on nuclear submarines.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing SUBSAFE work IAW NAVSEA 0924-062-0010 L/R.
  • Steam Plant Cleanliness trained and qualified IAW NAVSEAINST 9210.36F.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair work on nuclear submarines within the assigned trade.
  • Open, inspect, repair, and test components of submarine sea water, hydraulic, and diesel systems.
  • Inspect and repair hatches/water tight openings.
  • Overhaul VH valves and perform ASW/MSW hull and backup valve repairs.
  • Repair AHP valves.
  • Remove, repair, install, align, and test sail systems (periscope, masts, antennas).
  • Perform repair and restoration work on shaft, shaft couplings, and vibration reducers.
  • Inspect/overhaul main reduction gears and associated components.
  • Remove/refurbish and reinstall fairwater and/or stern plane components.
  • Repair/replace anchor windlass and associated anchor system components.
