About The Position

Full Time Monday - Friday Day Shift Pay $21.01 - $28.66 Pierce County's first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic. Comprehensive Life Resources is looking for a qualified Outreach Worker to join our team in Downtown Tacoma. All benefits contingent on working a scheduled 40hrs a week. Scope: Outreach Workers are part of a team that supports people who are living unhoused in Pierce County. They provide support to people experiencing homelessness who often have chronic mental illness and substance abuse issues. This is an outreach position with the expectation of working in the community a minimum of 50% of the time. Outreach workers must be able to meet clients where they are, which may include working in varying hazard/unsanitary conditions and being able to navigate a variety of terrain in all types of weather. This position requires driving to and from locations where clients are located and may include driving clients. Outreach Workers assist with the intake process in an efficient and friendly manner and provide other supportive services as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in social or behavioral sciences preferred.
  • One-year relevant experience in mental health related field. Experience in the provision of case management services that demonstrate the ability to work with the mentally ill homeless population.
  • WA State credential/license
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. A working vehicle may also be required.

Responsibilities

  • Help clients access resources and make referrals to support programs.
  • Provide advocacy when clients encounter barriers.
  • Obtain housing readiness documentation (ID, social security card, income verification).
  • Identify appropriate housing and complete housing applications.
  • Perform street-based outreach services to people who are homeless and their families.
  • Provide referrals to shelter and services.
  • Distribute food, hygiene supplies, tents, tarps, sleeping bags, bus passes and gas vouchers.
  • Identify needs and provide resources for mental health, substance recovery, educational programs, and financial and housing assistance services.
  • Obtain program resources, all reports/record keeping, assessments to determine eligibility, and paperwork.
  • Make multiple contacts as needed and provide basic needs items to engage clients.
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of resources available to the homeless within the community.
  • Attend program meetings as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
