About The Position

The Outreach Specialist plays a crucial role in Mel Trotter Ministries' mission to end homelessness in Grand Rapids. This full-time position involves direct engagement with individuals experiencing homelessness, providing essential services such as access to food, clothing, and community resources. The specialist works closely with the Director of Outreach Services and the Outreach team to ensure effective outreach and support for those in need.

Requirements

• Minimum two years' experience working with similar populations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid Driver's License; Chauffer's License preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in trauma-informed care and de-escalation training.

Responsibilities

• Travel to various community locations to support individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Provide access to essential services such as food, clothing, and hygiene products.
• Inform clients about available housing and employment resources.
• Collaborate with the Outreach team to address operational issues.
• Train and support volunteers during outreach shifts.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure the security of assigned equipment.
• Drive the outreach van and operate the shower trailer at designated locations.
• Restock and manage inventory for outreach supplies.
• Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
