About The Position

The Student Support Services Outreach Specialist plays a vital role in advancing the mission and goals of the TRIO SSS program. This position focuses on student engagement, recruitment, and retention through targeted outreach, academic advising, and collaboration with the SSS team. Working closely with the Data and Retention Specialist, the Outreach Specialist helps ensure that the program meets federal objectives related to persistence, academic performance, graduation, and transfer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, required.
  • One year of experience working in post-secondary education, required.
  • One year of experience working with a database program, required.
  • One year of experience working with disadvantaged populations, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution, preferred.
  • One year of experience working in a TRIO program, preferred.
  • Three years of experience working with interactive technology, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides holistic academic advising and guidance to assigned SSS participants, including course selection, degree planning, transfer options, and goal setting.
  • Develops and implements outreach strategies to recruit eligible students for the SSS program across all campus locations.
  • Works closely with the Data and Retention Specialist to ensure the program meets all Student Support Services goals and objectives related to persistence, academic performance, graduation, and transfer.
  • Coordinates information sessions, classroom visits, campus tours, and other recruitment events to promote SSS services.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners to identify and refer eligible students.
  • Assists in creating promotional materials, newsletters, and social media content to highlight program services and student success.
  • Conducts regular check-ins with students to monitor academic progress and provide individualized support or referrals as needed.
  • Assists students with developing effective study skills, time management, and self-advocacy strategies.
  • Supports the coordination and facilitation of student workshops focused on financial literacy, career readiness, and personal development.
  • Collaborates with the Data and Retention Specialist to collect, track, and verify student eligibility documentation, service usage, and program outcomes.
  • Contributes to the assessment and continuous improvement of SSS services to ensure compliance with federal and institutional requirements.
  • Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and program effectiveness.
  • Assists with special events, reports, and other duties as assigned by the SSS Program Manager.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information and demonstrates professionalism in all communications and interactions.
