About The Position

The position involves teaching biological sciences courses at Hutchinson Community College, including general biology, microbiology, and human anatomy and physiology. Teaching assignments may include evening courses and alternative delivery systems such as Zoom, Hybrid, Blended Online, and Online. The role may also require teaching at various high school locations and traveling to McPherson and/or Newton Outreach locations, with high school semesters potentially extending beyond the HutchCC academic calendar. Responsibilities include planning and implementing instructional activities, updating curricula, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with the department and Outreach team.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in biological sciences or related field, or a Master's degree in another field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in biological sciences.
  • Experience teaching college level courses preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to teach via alternative delivery systems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with diverse populations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
  • Visual acuity to view a computer terminal.
  • Ability to use appropriate judgment and apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
  • Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned Hutchinson Community College biological sciences courses.
  • Conduct teaching assignments that may include evening courses and alternative delivery systems.
  • Teach at various high school locations and travel to Outreach locations.
  • Plan and implement appropriate activities to supplement instruction.
  • Revise and update curricula as assigned by the department chairperson.
  • Maintain accurate records in the learning management system and submit grades and course outcomes timely.
  • Access the learning management system regularly and respond to emails.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with Outreach and the department.
  • Arrive on time for work and attend work regularly.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the department chairperson or the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
