About The Position

The mission of the Bureau of Tuberculosis Control is to prevent the spread of tuberculosis and to eliminate it as a public health problem in New York City. The office of Training & Outreach is seeking to fill the role of Outreach Nurse Educator/Trainer. This role will provide TB and other relevant comorbidities education to external healthcare providers, as a part of the provider outreach from BTBC. They would establish partnerships with medical schools, medical facilities, and medical professional organizations to deliver medical talks and ensure healthcare providers in NYC are appropriately educated on the best practices for TB clinical care.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with at least two years of responsibility in the planning, coordination and implementation of outreach or research interventions.
  • Experience with medical consultation and delivering clinical lectures.
  • Ability to speak, read and write in another language, such as Chinese, Spanish, Bengali, Urdu, or Hindi.
  • Experience in outreach, designing and conducting training needs assessment.
  • Knowledge of basic data management, analysis, outreach and reporting methods.
  • Excellent skills in presentation, organization, and written and oral communication.
  • Experience with phlebotomy for patients in various outreach settings.
  • Ability to work offsite at locations throughout the five boroughs, on weekends and/or evenings, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize the design, implementation, and evaluation of provider education efforts, targeted materials distribution and education/empowerment of clinical partner organizations.
  • Assist with provider education events, such as delivering grand rounds lectures, conducting provider convenings, and the annual medical conference.
  • Increase outreach effectiveness through data-driven analysis of TB epidemiology in NYC, identifying areas for intervention and resource allocation.
  • Provide critical insights and strategies for TB awareness campaigns and provider engagement initiatives to elevate TB concerns.
  • Review data for all provider outreach initiatives using reports through Public Health Partners Connect.
  • Co-lead the TB Coalition with the Director of Outreach, in enhancing the Coalition's reach to clinicians in NYC, and set agendas for Coalition meetings.
  • Engage and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and sustain strategic partnerships aimed at informing and implementing outreach interventions for high TB-risk populations in NYC.
  • Formulate strategic partnerships with FQHCs or other low-cost clinics to execute grant-funded initiatives aimed at increasing TB testing accessibility.
  • Track grantee deliverables, maintain records, and prepare reports.
  • Present abstracts and research at conferences to inform stakeholders and partners.
  • Mentor students, interns, and medical fellow rotations within BTBC.
  • Produce and QA quarterly data updates for NYS and CDC reporting.
  • Coordinate research, implementation, and evaluation of outreach initiatives to inform future planning to promote best practices for TB care and treatment.
  • Contribute to design of evaluation studies and research of evidence-based training & outreach, including the design of surveys and questionnaires.
  • Conduct qualitative interviews with patients and partners to evaluate outreach effectiveness and inform program improvements.
  • Assist with drafting and submission of Continuing Medical Education (CME) documents for BTBC trainings and conferences.
