About The Position

This outreach position will conduct outreach to homeless within the New York City Subway system, including end of the line stations, and on joint outreach with MTAPD or NYPD. The role involves supervising outreach staff, coordinating onboarding, leading trainings, ensuring safety, maintaining knowledge of homeless services, recording data, consulting with supervisors, and providing emergency assistance when needed.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of direct outreach experience required.
  • Associate's Degree with 1 year of direct outreach experience will be considered.
  • Bachelor's Degree with at least 6 months of direct outreach experience will be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license strongly preferred.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Ability to speak Spanish desirable.
  • CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR.
  • Vaccination preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to homeless individuals in the New York City Subway system.
  • Provide direct supervision of outreach staff on shift, including real-time feedback and communication with partners.
  • Coordinate onboarding for new outreach staff, including explaining shift duties and necessary trainings.
  • Lead trainings for existing staff on client engagement and recognizing mental illness.
  • Ensure team and client safety, conduct assessments, and offer referral services.
  • Maintain knowledge of homeless services and programs.
  • Record and maintain accurate data on homeless individuals approached.
  • Consult with shift and clinical supervisors for service coordination.
  • Provide emergency first aid/CPR or overdose prevention assistance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
