About The Position

The Community Outreach Coordinator will play a vital role in the Native Connections grant program at the San Diego American Indian Health Center (SDAIHC), focusing on fostering resilience and reducing substance abuse and mental health issues among American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth. This position involves developing and implementing community outreach strategies, engaging with local communities, and collaborating with various departments to enhance health promotion and disease prevention services for Urban Indians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing/healthcare or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to cultivate and build positive relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure and multi-task.
  • Strategic thinker with analytical skills.
  • Strong MS Office, computer, and social media skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience serving a multicultural population.
  • FQHC and/or public health background.
  • Familiarity with Community Health Clinics and/or Indian Health Clinics.
  • Experience working in the substance abuse prevention and mental health fields.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strong resources and engaging methods of delivery of healthcare messaging to Urban Native Americans.
  • Conduct targeted outreach and training to community-based organizations.
  • Participate in events/fairs that could potentially result in partnerships with SDAIHC.
  • Maintain tracking logs of outreach efforts.
  • Work collaboratively to develop outreach strategies.
  • Monitor receipt and accuracy of data submitted by nutrition and physical activity staff.
  • Create and manage regular digital communication performance reports and key takeaways, including key analytics for maximizing enrollment.
  • Facilitate presentations in the community.
  • Assist in the development of a Community Needs Assessment, Community Readiness Assessment, and Tribal Strategic Action Plan.
  • Engage directly with AI/AN youth and the larger community.
