About The Position

The Outreach Consultant for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in Montana is responsible for promoting appropriate educational practices and interventions. This role involves providing consultation and technical assistance to education professionals, families, and service providers regarding service options, resources, and best practices for deaf and hard of hearing children. The successful candidate must understand and communicate the continuum of communication options between American Sign Language and Listening and Spoken Language. The position includes various responsibilities such as classroom support, early childhood education and intervention, assessment and evaluation, and organizing extension programs and services. The consultant will also manage office duties, maintain student files, and travel to various Local Education Agencies (LEAs) as needed.

Requirements

  • Skills and knowledge related to Deaf Education and providing accommodations in regular classrooms.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Deaf Education, ASL, Deaf Studies, Special Education, or related degree.
  • Ability to obtain Montana Teaching Licensure is preferred.
  • Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students is highly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited Interpreter Training Program.
  • Master's in Speech and Language Pathology.
  • Degree in Audiology.

Responsibilities

  • Promote appropriate educational practices and interventions for deaf and hard of hearing children.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to education professionals, families, and service providers.
  • Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and participate in IEP meetings.
  • Collaborate with Part C to participate in intake activities for early childhood education.
  • Provide advising and instruction to families regarding child development and communication options.
  • Interpret audiological information reports and assist in obtaining audiological reports.
  • Plan and facilitate family learning weekends and other outreach events.
  • Maintain and manage student files and data within a centralized data system.
  • Complete follow-up reports and maintain communication with office/school/service agencies.
  • Travel to various Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and attend monthly meetings and outreach events.
