About The Position

The physical therapist assistant treats patients under the direction of the licensed therapist and according to the established treatment plan, supervises and delegates tasks to supportive personnel, maintains appropriate records, communicates patient progress to physicians and other health care workers as indicated, meets department productivity expectations, accepts responsibility for personal and professional growth and performs other duties as assigned. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her area.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from a Physical Therapist Assistant program required.
  • Michigan Physical Therapist Assistant License required.
  • BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required.
  • Completion of initial and ongoing stroke care education required.
  • Basic computer knowledge required.
  • One year applicable experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Treat patients under the direction of the licensed therapist according to the established treatment plan.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to supportive personnel.
  • Maintain appropriate records and communicate patient progress to physicians and other health care workers.
  • Meet department productivity expectations.
  • Accept responsibility for personal and professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate essential skill in the use of treatment modalities, equipment and protocols.
  • Perform reassessments as assigned and adjust treatment plan accordingly.
  • Select treatment methods appropriate to the patient's diagnosis, age group, physical and emotional status.
  • Recognize the need for alterations in the treatment method and overall plan as the patient advances or regresses.
  • Notify primary PT/OT of non-routine changes in the treatment situation.
  • Instruct ancillary staff in patient positioning, mobility and caregiving.
  • Educate patient and/or family in home exercise programs, transfers, caregiving, home safety and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Adhere to department policy regarding written rehabilitation documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, family, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors and outside contacts.
  • Complete all administrative and other responsibilities in support of the operating unit.
