About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Pharmacy Technician for our Outpatient Pharmacy at Norfolk General Hospital. The Pharmacy Tech II performs the technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. This role demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area, competently working independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice. Responsibilities include filling and delivering medications, ensuring adequate supplies for patient care, and maintaining quality assurance according to departmental and legal requirements. The position requires a pharmacy technician license in the state of practice.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required).
  • CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) (Required).
  • 2 Years Pharmacy Experience (Required).

Responsibilities

  • Perform technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under supervision.
  • Demonstrate advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area.
  • Work independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
  • Participate in the training of new employees.
  • Fill and deliver medications under supervision.
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
  • Triage and escalate questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice.
  • Use appropriate systems for processing patient information.
  • Maintain quality assurance according to departmental and legal requirements.
  • Operate pharmacy equipment appropriately.
