Under the close supervision of a licensed pharmacist, compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies as prescribed by the medical staff. Reviews physician orders, obtains clarification as necessary and regularly consults with medical staff, nursing personnel and others in order to coordinate delivery of high quality pharmaceutical services.

Requirements

  • Completion of first professional year (third year of college) of undergraduate training to become a pharmacist
  • Current license as an intern pharmacist with the Montana State Board of Pharmacy At hire
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.
  • Functions as a staff pharmacist or pharmacy technician. Work is reviewed and checked by a pharmacist. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Pharmacy Intern Scope of Practice)
  • Assists the pharmacist with all aspects of the Billings Clinic medication distribution system including compounding/admixing pharmaceutical preparations, filling bottles/bubble-packs with prescribed tablets/capsules, typing labels for bottles, unit-dose cart-fill, charge/crediting medications, etc. - see specific items 4-6 below (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Assists Pharmacist)
  • Contacts physicians to clarify any questionable order. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Patient safety)
  • Carefully checks medication carts for accuracy. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Audits Medication Carts)
  • Accurately, safely, and properly prepares intravenous admixtures. Work is reviewed and checked by a pharmacist. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Intravenous Admixtures Prep)
  • Answers the telephone and assists customers seeking pharmaceutical care. Performs a variety of data entry and report generating tasks. (Administrative, Telephone skills, Telephone Skills) & (Administrative, Data Entry, Data Entry/Reports)
  • Maintains an accurate perpetual inventory by recording and verifying all narcotic medications used. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Medication Usage)
  • Facilitates the delivery of all pharmaceuticals to meet the needs of the customer/patient. (Patient Care, Pharmacy, Medication Delivery)
  • Enters charges and credits for the adjudication/reconciliation of patient accounts and insurance claims billing. (Resource Management, Charge Entry, Charge Entry)
  • Maintains the pharmacy in a neat and organized condition. (Environment of Care, Maintenance, Pharmacy Maintenance)
  • Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality.
  • Identify needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational/departmental requirements.
  • Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
